摘要

The Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) is an endangered species that has been entered in the IUCN red list of mammals. Despite being the largest terrestrial mammal, little is known about the genome of elephant, its organization and structure. The GH isa major participant in the control of several complex physiologic processes including growth and metabolism. This study was aimed to determine the sequence, nature "and patterns of exon-intron length distributions and the predicted protein structure of growth hormone gene and to compare its features with that of other species. This work seems to be the first of its kind in establishing the DNA and protein sequence data and structural organization of the GH gene in the Asian elephant.
