Detection of Dipetalonema Recondition Microfilariae by Histochemical Staining in Dogs

摘要

Canine filariosis is gaining more importance in small animal practice. The filarid nematodes causing canine filariosis includes Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria rep ens, Dipetalonema reconditum and Brugia pahangi. Of which Dirofilaria and Brugia species are transmitted by mosquitoes where as Dipetalonema species is transmitted by dog biting fleas like Ctenocephalides canis. According to Sabu et al. (2005) the sole cause of canine microfilariosis in Kerala is Dirofilaria repens. Ananda etal. (2006) reported Dipetulonema reconditum in dogs in Karnataka. The present paper deals with detection of Dipetalonema reconditum in dogs in Kerala and its confirmation by histochemical staining.
