Milking behaviour of Murrah buffaloes during hand and machine milking.

The effect of hand and machine milking on milking behaviour of Murrah buffaloes was studied at the institute farm in India. The milking temperament score significantly (P<0.05) influenced milking time, milk flow rate and milk yield in both hand and machine milking operations. Nervous buffaloes produced significantly less (P<0.05) milk and had low milk flow rate (P<0.05) in comparison to docile buffaloes. The pooled data of both the groups also revealed that docile animals produce more milk and has more milk flow rate in comparison to slight restless, restless and nervous buffalo. The milk yield was significantly (P<0.01) and positively correlated to milking time and milk flow rate and negatively correlated with temperament score (P<0.05) in both the groups. The study indicated no adverse effect of machine milking in buffaloes.
