Diagnosing and Managing Predisease States in Women's Health

Nurse practitioners (NPs) must continue their tradition of focusing on disease prevention and management. In primary care, NPs routinely screen patients to identify and treat predisease states in which patients do not have a disease but cannot be considered to be without it. Ideally, disease progression may be delayed or prevented. For example, screening for cervical cancer may identify precancerous lesions that can be treated before they progress to cervical cancer.
