摘要

Growing for the vegetable market can be a risky business without the comfort of a contract. Weather also plays a part in producing what consumers want, and if it can be delivered on time. A grower must also build a solid reputation for quality and reliability. Leo and Monika Rastapkevicius have such a reputation among grocers and farm markets in the London and St. Thomas area, which they supply with vegetables from their farm near West Lome. Intentions of farming part-time, while working in town, can sometimes take a turn for the better. At some point, the new crops and ventures sown by young couples can build up to the point that it is time to quit their town jobs for full-time farming.
