Pollen fertility studies in Indica-Japonica wide compatible rice hybrids.

Ten plants from 42 indica rice x japonica rice hybrids and parents, and 200 plants from segregating populations (F2, B1 and B2) in each of the 4 crosses, Plate Blanc MNI x Akihikari, N22 x IR 50, Lambayeque-1 x ADT 36 and Dular x Toyonishiki, were selected for pollen analysis. All indica x japonica combinations resulted in normal fertility indicating that either of the parents contained one neutral allele for pollen fertility. Pollen fertility analysis in the segregating populations of the 4 crosses showed that pollen fertility was controlled by a single gene.
