摘要

In a study on the economics, yield potential and soil health of rice-wheat cropping systems under long-term fertilizer experimentation, in Uttar Pradesh, India. The results reveal that imbalance in nutrients affected the grain yield of rice and wheat significantly. Although the highest cost:benefit ratio was obtained with the application of 100% N only, it will not continue longer due to the mining of reserve for other essential plant nutrients. Balancing of plant nutrients improved the nitrogen use efficiency. Soil health can be maintained by balanced fertilization and organic manuring. Thus, it can be concluded that although cost:benefit ratio with balanced fertilizers is quite low compared to the other treatments, for long-term sustainability of soil, balanced fertilization is essential.
