With a long flowering season, the nectar-rich flowers of Verbena both support pollinators and provide an airy foil to bolder border blooms.Mention verbena and many gardeners will immediately think of Verbena bonoriensts, apopular choice in the last 20 years. Its pale purple flowers in flat heads at the top of tall, thin stems are seen widely from June into late October. There are, however, others worth growing, all with a relatively subtle colouring that combines well with most other plants, and those that self-seed can help to tie the garden together visually.
