Evaluation of the Implementation of the Single Assessment Process and its Impact on Occupational Therapy Practice

Standard Two of the National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People (Department of Health [DH] 2001a) identified the use of the single assessment process (SAP) to ensure seamless processes through and between services,. This aimed to simplify the assessment process and to reduce repetitive questioning and duplication of documentation, ensuring a prompt and efficient response appropriate to the older person's level of need.Occupational therapists may be involved in every standard of the NSF for Older People and have professional responsibilities, including:1) Client-carer centred assessments and care choices.2) Multidisciplinary/multiagency working.3) Consistent holistic practice(College of Occupational Therapists/British Association of Occupational Therapists [COT/BAOT] 2003).
