Although I have written on this subject in the past, I feel the need to comment at least once more. In the past several months, there has been much said and written about the unfortunate situation now unfolding at the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). Editors from around the world have expressed their outrage that the Editor and Senior Associate Editor of the CMAJ were fired, seemingly because the owner (CMA publications, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Canadian Medical Association) was not prepared to allow editorial independence - or at least, was not willing to continue to provide it to the incumbent Editor.
