Way back in the dark ages, before engineers and drafters made effective use of geometric tolerances, I was taught to make sure a cover fit a box as I bent it. Of course, it mattered that both parts matched the print. But sometimes tolerance stackup can result in good parts that don't fit.It would be great if it were possible to test-fit the mating parts during production. (The rest of this column deals with the fact that it usually is impractical to test-fit the mating parts during production.)
