Horticulture is an industry with a well above average quota of optimists. There was an up-beat feel at the 46th Four Oaks Show, with all the exhibitors that I asked giving at least reasonably positive answers to the question 'How was the show for you?'There was surprisinglylittle pessimism, givenso many reasons why there should be more. Brexit, for the exhibitors from the Continent - almost two hundred, 40per cent of the total - might very well be poor news, especially if the downturn in the pound/euro exchange rate proves to be the new norm. For UK growers of ornamentals, Brexit will not be good news if the economy takes a long-term hit, with spending on plants vulnerable when disposable incomes fall.
