One veteran Four Oaks exhibitor confessed to me that last year he was not far from retiring in order to train as a counsellor for the charity Samaritans. Such was the state of mind of many of the growers who are his company's customers. Mercifully, things were very different in 2013. Good trading had arrived at last, after a nail-biting spring, so that growers and retailers alike had enjoyed three months of catch-up business. While 2013 could not possibly be a bumper year for the Show, footfall was at the least satisfactorily maintained on both days through the key period from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Exhibitor numbers, at well over 400, were not far behind 2012 levels, and the morale of both exhibitors and their customers was very much better. The continuing pulling power of the Show was evidenced by almost a hundred newcomers to the exhibitor list.
