During the outplacement, a Local doctor fulfils the role of Local supervisor. He or she is the experienced interpreter of various cross-culturaL differences that the student encounters in practice. The student writes a structured, reflective diary in which emphasis is placed on clinical incidents as 'remarkabLe moments'. These moments are analysed through four introspective questions (Box 1). Contact with the home supervisor is sustained by weekLy e-mails. The home supervisor is able to provide short feedback and 'alerts' to reflect upon.
