Structuring the orthopaedic trauma meeting to improve Learning

Structured specialty training, with the reduction in hours resulting from the European Working Time Directive, requires learning to become as much of a focus of the trainee's job as his or her clinical commitments. All workplace-based events - for example, ward rounds, X-ray or multi-disciplinary team meetings and so on - must be acknowledged as learning opportunities and structured to maximise their learning potential. This may require a shift in attitudes for both trainees and the teams in which they work.
