Of all the factors that influence heavy diesel fuel economy and emissions, few people give much thought to the critical role played by today's advanced engine oils. In a recent webcast, Heavy Duty Engine Oil: The Road Ahead, Mark Betner, Heavy Duty Product Manager for CITGO Lubricants, discussed how various factors including engine design changes for improved performance, fuel efficiency and reduced emission requirements have placed greater stress and demands on engine oils. As a consequence, oil formulations have been greatly improved and new formulations are being developed to insure engine durability and sustain engine oil change intervals.
