Achieving excellence as a breast health educator at a global level: a new initiative of the World Society for Breast Health.

Recognized as a serious public health problem, breast cancer continues to receive global attention. This is best reflected by the growing increase in the number of local, national and international scientific and advocacy organizations that have made breast cancer their focused priority. These efforts have resulted in achieving milestones in breast cancer diagnosis and management. Increased public awareness, advances in breast imaging and genetics, the introduction of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and the discovery of molecular targeted therapy have contributed to improved breast cancer care.
