Psychology in an Age of Ecological Crisis From Personal Angst to Collective Action

Recent technological, geophysical, and societal forces havefundamentally altered the structure and functioning of hu-man environments. Prominent among these forces are therise of the Internet; rapid rates of global environmentalchange; and widening rifts among different socioeconomic,racial, religious, and ethnic groups. The present articletraces the influence of these conditions on individuals'cognition, behavior, and well-being. New theoretical ques-tions are raised and conceptual frameworks proposed tounderstand how global conditions are restructuring peo-ple's relationships with their everyday environments. Newdirections for psychological research and practice aimedat reducing global threats to personal and societal well-being are discussed.
