CHINA is the dominant force in global gold production and is playing an increasingly important role in gold markets as the standard of living of its 1 billion-plus residents improves and its economy strengthens. The future for gold mining in China is huge, according to Majestic Gold's president Rod Husband. "China has gone from number six producer in the world in 2003 to number one. South Africa has gone down in terms of production and China has gone up to more than 10 million ounces a year."
