An improved measurement technique is presented for the thick-adherend tensile shear test for determining adhesive properties. Two extensometers with strain gauges are attached to the edge of each side of the specimen at three reference points. An anaerobic adhesive is tested using steel substrates. Numerical adherend deformation correction leads to realistic shear data derived from the stress-strain diagram at different temperatures. Also, a computer aided analysis method yields Young's modulus.
