In-process measurement of coating thicknesses is particularly before curing - a key issue in allindustrial coating operations. Of the physical measurement methods available photothermics, theapplication of thermal waves, is becoming the technology of choice for the measurement of coatingthicknesses. The method is not only non-destructive and non-tactile, it also provides the precisionsrequired while being sufficiently rugged for industrial environment. A description of the equipment used is given. Examples show the potential of this technique inindustrial applications.
