BHP Billiton says it would consider divesting PotashCorp's nitrogen and phosphate assets in the event its $38.6-billion bid for Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PotashCorp) succeeds, according to a Reuters report. During a conference call with analysts, the Melbourne-based mining firm said 70% of PotashCorp's value is in its potash assets. Agrium would consider purchasing some of the assets, citing a strong outlook for fertilizers, CEO Mike Wilson told Bloomberg News. PotashCorp is the market leader in potash with 20% of global capacity. It is the third-biggest player in nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, and is the biggest producer of phosphate feed ingredients, industrial nitrogen products, and purified industrial phosphoric acid.
