Utilizing Agriculture Business and Industry Mentors to Aide in 4-H Youth Development Programming

Youth development professionals in 4-H and FFA are regularly hearing that the United States is facing a shortage of agricultural scientists. Youth today are not aware of the opportunities that are available to them in the field of agriculture. Two ofthe primary goals of the new 4-H Science of Agriculture program is to increase agricultural literacy and career opportunity awareness for 4-H youth. The nonformal educationalouth development professionals in 4-H and FFA are regularly hearing that the United States is fac-the eight steps in the engineering process to formulate a potential solution to the agricultural issue that they identified and create a 20 minute presentation that is evaluated by a panel of agricultural experts. The teams are all competing for scholarships that will be used to continue their education in a post-secondary institution.
