In 1991, Understanding Our Food, Agricultural and Natural ResourcesSystem: The Strategic Agricultural Education Planfor the State of Indiana (Agricultural Education Strategic Planning Committee, 1991) called for magnet schools in agricultural education. In Fall 1994, Indiana answered those calls with the first class of students in the Indianapolis-based STAR Academy (Science and Technology of Agriculture and Its Resources).
