Service learning: a custom fit

摘要

Service learning must fit. It must fit the instructor, the students, and the learning goals of the course. Integration makes the difference in producing a meaningful experience for the students. I have integrated service learning into a college leadership course within agricultural education. The course is called Leadership in Agriculture and is an ongoing course at Iowa State University. My section of the course attracts 25 juniors and seniors who are pursuing a general agriculture degree. Servicelearning has been a highlight from the start and provides experiential learning opportunities for students in the area of leadership (Kolb, 1984).
