Air Products, Praxair Receive CCS Funds from DOE

Projects by Air Products and Praxair are among 22 carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE; Washington) as part of an industrial carbon capture initiative. The 22 projects will receive a total of $575 million in U.S. stimulus funds. The funds were awarded to a variety of companies, universities and research groups. Air Products is receiving $71.7 million, the second-largest award in the program. The money will go towards accelerating the manufacture of ion transport membrane (ITM) modules that could produce oxygen more cheaply and efficiently than existing state-of-the-art technology. Air Products will build a commercial-scale plant in Allentown, PA to make the ITM modules two years ahead of schedule.
