Sinopec will continue to pursue international expansion as it seeks to strengthen the global position of its energy and chemical operations, Wang Tianpu, vice chairman and president of Sinopec said in a key- note speech at today's China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference (CPCIC) co-organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and Chemical Week. Sinopec's chemi- cal operations have added more than 2 million m.t./year of ethylene capacity this year, lifting capacity to 9.5 million m.t./year. Sinopec forecasts ethylene capacity of 12 million-13.5 million m.t./year by 2015, Wang says. Sinopec will also upgrade existing refinery and chemical operations and will eliminate chemical operations with poor profitability, he adds.
