SAFC Hitech to Build Precursors Production Plant in Taiwan

SAFC Hitech, a division of Sigma-Aldrich, says it plans to build a facility at Kaohsiung, Taiwan for transfilling, technical service, and production of light-emitting diode (LED) and silicon semiconductor precursors. The facilityis expected to become operational by late 2011, and it will extend the company’s ability to serve the Asian market, SAFC Hitech says. It will leverage capabilities developed at the company’s existing Kaohsiung facility, which handles highly specialized laboratory-scale chemicals and features a dedicated customer support center. The new investment will add significant capacity for the dedicated manufacturingof precursors to support the burgeoning market for high-brightness LEDs and precursorsfor the silicon semiconductor market, SAFC Hitech says.
