Demodicidosis associated with psoriasis therapy - Two case reports

Demodex rnites (Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis) colonisation of the skin varies from 20 to 80% and reaches up to 100% in elderly people.1"3 Imimmosuppressive treatment, as used for psoriasis, may increase the number of demodex mites.1"5 Psoriasis vulgaris is an inflammatory, papulosquamous disease of the skin and joints linked to predisposing genes and environmental factors.A 68-year-old Caucasian man with a 30-year history of psoriasis vulgaris (Patient 1) and a 64-year-old Caucasian man with a 10-year history of psoriasis vulgaris (Patient 2) presented with an exacerbation of disease that had been well controlled up to that time. The trunk, the face and the upper extremities showed multiple, disseminated, indurated, non-scaling, erythematous papules and pustules, not fitting into the clinical picture of psoriasis (Figs 1,2).
