Conjugate additions of the bifunctional organocopper(I) reagents 2-(trimethylstannyl)allylcopper(I)-dimethyl sulfide (I) and lithium (3-trimethylgermylbut-3-en-1-yl)(cyano)cuprate (2) to the cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde substrate 9 play key roles in the development of new methods for the stereoselective synthesis of functionalized trans-fused bicyclo[3.3.0]octane and bicyclo[4.3.0]nonane systems, respectively.
