Tunnel vision: A particulate matter sampling system using a partial flow dilution method has been designed to perform sampling during a transient test cycle

The adoption of the transient test cycle has created new performance requirements for diesel engine PM emission measurement systems. As the result of fundamental experiments and studies, Horiba has developed the MDLT-1302T to meet the measurement requirements of the transient test cycle, and to provide good correlation with the full flow dilution tunnel. A number of challenges were encountered during the development process, but these were overcome through the teamwork of the electrical, mechanical and software experts. As the MDLT-1302T product is used and evaluated by customers in the field, we will continue our effort to improve the state-of-the-art emissions measurement.
