Transmissibility curves for packaging cushioning materials hold a relationship with cushion curves for the same materials. This article covers the fundamentals of this relationship and explores practical ways in which it can be used to develop one curve if the other is known. A series of tests was performed to test the hypothesis that transmissibility curves can be constructed with data obtained for cushion curves, using different densities and configurations of expanded polyethylene. The article covers all phases of the experiments, the data analysis, and the results.
