To the Editor: In the May issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, we published that the risk of progression of gastric preneoplastic lesions was higher in patients infected with the most virulent Helicobacter pylori cagA and vacA genotypes than in patients infected with the least virulent strains (1). In that study performed in a region with a high risk of gastric cancer, we focused on the s- and m-region genotypes of vacA.
