American GTL advances shale gas-to-liquids project

American GTL Energy Holdings (Pittsburgh, PA) said on Wednesday that it had completed a front-end loading (FEL) 2 level study into the feasibility of building a 20,000-bbl/day gas-to-middle distillates plant to process natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale formations. The study was based on information from BP and Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies, which offer leading fixed-bed Fischer-Tropsch technology.
