Mitsubishi Chemical to restructure PTA business

Mitsubishi Chemical plans to restructure its money-losing purified terephthalic acid (PTA) business, according to Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp. Kobayashi was speaking to CW on the sidelines of the recent Cefic General Assembly meeting in Paris. Mitsubishi Chemical is a leading global producer of PTA. It operates plants at Merak, Indonesia, which have a capacity for 640,000 m.t./year; Ningbo, China, with 600,000 m.t./year; and Haldia, India, where it has two plants with combined capacity of 1.2 million m.t./year.
