摘要

The West Bengal government has decided to sell its share in Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd. (HPL; Kolkata) to the Chatterjee Group, the original promoters of HPL, local reports say. The deal ends a dispute, which lasted for more than a decade. HPL is the only major producer of petrochemicals and polymers on the east coast of India. The Chatterjee Group is owned by private entrepreneur Purnendu Chatterjee. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corp. (WBIDC) has signed a share purchase agreement with the Chatterjee Group to transfer its 40% holding in the company at a price of 25.10 Indian rupees/share, valuing the deal at Rs13.2 billion ($216.6 million). This price matches that offered by Indian Oil Corp.
