In July 2015, Peabody Energy Corporation as the world’s biggest private coal mining company sold Wilkie Creekcoal mine in the State of QLD which was then shut down to Sekitan Resources Pty Ltd.Wilkie Creek coal mine is an open pit thermal coal mine in the Surat Basin, QLD and the type of coal produced isthermal coal for export. 2.3Mtpa of thermal coal used to be produced at this coal mine. However, as the export market forthermal coal got weakened, Peabody Energy suspended coal production at this coal mine in December 2013.
