Cosmo Oil's Coker at Sakai Refinery Is in Operation at Low Run rate

Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. raised production capacity of a coker at 100,000 barrel-per-day Sakai refinery from 25,000 bpd to 29,000 bpd this February. However, the company seems to have continued operation at low run rate in the wake of decline in oil products and petroleum coke market. Although the specific operation rate has not been known, a person of Cosmo Oil said, “Due to sluggish domestic demand, we are unable to increase utilization ratio of the coker. Especially, prices of petroleum coke, which are linked to prices of coal, have been hovering around Yen10,000/MT and cannot be expected to go up. I think the coker will run at low rate for the time being.”
