The synthesis of ordered nanostructured materials has drawn the attention of researchers for several years. The approach of the "bottom-up" synthetic methods of making these materials has become of particular interest, especially methods that involve the self-assembly of molecular building blocks into well-ordered templates and the use of these templates for the creation of well-ordered nanostructures. The materials resulting from such bottom-up self-assembly synthesis exhibit highly ordered structures, high surface areas, uniform nanometer pore sizes, high pore volume, and other properties that can be used in applications such as adsorption, biosensing, catalysis, and drug delivery.
