Recent reports from Sri Lanka say that the government has stopped importing NR with immediate effect to cushion the impact of declining rubber prices in the domestic market. Of the 119,543 ha of rubber plantations in the country 69,676 are smallholdings. The government is also offering a guaranteed price of Rs150 for 1 kg of rubber, providing subsidies for latex rubber, suspended the export tax for a period of one year, reduced diesel prices by Rs10, brought down interest rates on loans granted to rubber manufacturers and extended loan repayment periods.
