The Pulp and Paper Occupational Programme (PPOP) was introduced to help full-time employees in the pulp and paper industry study via distance learning. In 2013, Sappi Saiccor enrolled its first group of five distance learners in the programme at Umfolozi College, and a further seven followed the next year. By 2015, interest in the programme spread like wildfire across the mill and an impressive 20 employees signed up for the year's first enrolment; a figure which soon grew to 80. This year, 44 students enrolled for Semester one.
