Hardware is a significant project concern for many contract glaziers. Considerations such as coordination and compatibility, as well as costs and lead times, can leave installers frustrated as they work to complete their portion of the job. Anthony Callas, a senior project manager with Metropolitan Glass in Denver, says one of his biggest hardware concerns is compatibility. He says the installation is not just about the hardware, but how it works with the door as well as surrounding conditions. He has a list of some common questions that always need answers, such as:If the door operator is in a slab, is it a slab that can receive one (the operator), etc.?How do all the parts and pieces go together? If it's electrified, are the surrounding walls ready to have wiring brought to them? Callas adds that how the door hardware relates to the environment is important as well. For example, if the door operators are sensitive to wind pressures, high winds potentially could push the door open. In other words, the wind might trigger the door to unlatch as though it were being pushed open by a person.
