According to the results of a study on 2058 subjects,51% of the women questioned declared having sensitive skin.1 This augmented sensitivity could result from conditions inherent in the skin:dry skin,rosacea(flushed facial skin),skin with a tendency to acne or the presence of a contact dermatitis.The use of cosmetic products can also induce a number of types of discomfort in these skin types predisposed to cutaneous reactions due to the presence of compounds in the formula that are known to be responsible for the appearance of signs of irritation(preservatives,solvents,emulsifiers etc.).It could thus be of value to reduce,remove or replace this type of compound.The modification of a formula is often a difficult step,however,and one possible solution is the incorporation of cosmetic active ingredients having soothing properties.
