GASTROSTOMY FEEDING IN CHILDREN ON CHRONIC PERITONEAL DIALYSIS

Children need to grow and develop. One of the major challenges for pediatric renal teams is to maintain and promote growth in chiLdren with chronic renal failure or during dialysis. Poor appetite, anorexia, and vomiting are all part of the uremic state and are not only unpleasant for the child, but resultin considerable anxiety and frustration for the caregivers. Dialysis may improve the biochemistry profile but not necessarily nutritional intake. We often refer to a quote by one of the parents, that "The dialysis is easy; it's the feeding that is difficult" (1).
