TO THE EDITOR:Surgical treatment of urinary lithiasis has seen many paradigm shifts during the years. At present, refinements in flexible ureteroscope technology, ureteroscopic accessories, and holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser lith-otripsy has enabled the exponential increase in retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for renal calculi. Although the increase in RIRS has been more pronounced in adults, the present report attests to a similar trend in children. The authors report on primary RIRS for renal stones in 19 patients with a mean age of 6.9 years, with the youngest 2 years old. This adds to the growing body of evidence on the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopy and holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet lithotripsy for renal calculi in children.
