Secretary-Treasurer Kane was the keynote speaker at the UMWA's annual ceremony to remember the 37 miners killed at the Robena mine on Dec. 6,1962. Over 150 UMWA leaders, workers, retirees and their families gathered at the Robena memorial outside Carmichaels, Pa., to hear Kane's message of the need for renewed UMWA and labor solidarity and strength at the workplace and the ballot box so that disasters like Robena will never happen again.
