Reflecting on the state of the electricity industry on the eve of the AGM of the Association of Electricity Producers (AEP) on 6 November 2008, AEP chief executive David Porter said, "The electricity industry expects to invest ?100bn by 2020 in new power stations and related infrastructure. This is needed to replace ageing power stations and also to meet the government's renewable energy target, which requires between 30 percent and 40 percent of the UK's electricity to come from renewables by 2020.
