Surface mine clears decades of dereliction

A DERELICT West Yorkshire mine site has had the scars of its industrial past removed in a three-year "new land from old" mining and reclamation project. Residents of villages surrounding the former Sharlston Colliery at New Sharlston near Normanton have had a VIP tour of the 150-area site to see how the derelict and partially contaminated area has been painstakingly restored.
