Mirtazapine-induced worsening of restless legs syndrome (RLS) and ropinirole-induced psychosis: challenges in management of depression in RLS.

No formal guidelines exist for the management of depression in restless legs syndrome (RLS) and very little is known about uncommon but potentially serious drug related adverse effects due to antidepressants and dopamine agonists in patients with comorbid depression and RLS. We present a case of an elderly man with a history of RLS who experienced a dramatic and debilitating sequence of events beginning with mild depression, continuing with antidepressant-aggravated RLS, and culminating in dopamine agonist-induced psychosis.
