Talks to end strike between union and Fenoco in Colombia stall once again

Negotiations between management at Colombia's largest coal hauling railway, Fenoco, and union officials have stalled. The strike enters its 18th day today. The Vice Minister of Labor met with both sides over the weekend in an effort to mediate a settlement but little progress was made. "The minister had hoped to resume talks Monday but it didn't happen," a source told Inside Coal. "Both Fenoco and the union are stuck at the starting gate. They haven't moved past their original demands. Fenoco wants the trains sitting on the track full of coal moved before it will begin negotiations and the union wants workers that were fired in a 2009 strike rehired before it will talk."
